Heaven rejoices...

...as it embraces its most faithful servant, while we who are left behind mourn his loss. i never met the pope in person (although quite a lot of my friends have). however, i was one of the millions who stood on roxas boulevard waiting to get a glimpse of him ten years ago, and who camped out at luneta during world youth day. i was in seventh grade.

(it was also during the pope's visit that i met and fell in love with the group who would eventually become my church choir, in hymn. in hymn made being a catholic real to me, and was the first of many steps that led to where i am today: acs and my pipe dreams.)

i ended up getting a shot of him rolling by in his "popemobile", and that was pretty much it. but there was something that radiated from him, almost palpable even from a distance. if someone ever needed proof that God personally anoints His servants, or that he touches, empowers and blesses His children, then i believe the pope was that proof. not only because of that indescribable something that people feel in his presence, but his incredible and unflagging ministry.

acs will be performing at the ailm conductors' workshop on friday, april 8. we will dedicate the performance to the pope. with songs like edward elgar's lux aeterna (better known from the movie elizabeth), john tavener's song for athene (sung at princess diana's funeral) and trina's tell the world of his love on the program, how could we not?
