Because the night

... belongs to us. yes, it's that old 10,000 maniacs song.

it's a shot of the earth at night. and for some reason, i found it really beautiful. and comforting, in some way.

i wouldn't have stumbled upon this site had it not been for, well, stumbleupon. a free download for ie and firefox, stumbleupon is kind of random search toolbar. you enumerate your preferred topics upon registration, and everytime you click the cute little button that says stumble! you get bumped to a random interesting website that has been given the thumbs-up by other users. you can rate the site (a simple thumbs-up or -down) to help stumbleupon form a better picture of the kinds of sites you'd like to see. (god i sound like an infomercial.)

i am quite delighted with this nifty litle toolbar. it brings me back to the days when internet access was php150 per hour. you simply didn't know what to do with all this content, so you ended up stumbling upon sites upon sites upon sites -- some cool, some totally incomprehensible.

try it, it's fun. it's a helluva lot more fun than hotbar, that's for sure. :-)

first got wind of this on popgadget.

  2. Have you ever heard of Google Earth? You can download it (o diba, freeware) here: www.snapfiles.com/get/googleearth.html (siyempre I can't, hahay discrimination against Macs).

"Just type in the address or location, and watch the interactive 3D navigate to that location, zooming in to street level (you can actually see cars on the street). Along with the detailed satellite images, you can pan and zoom, mark locations, and activate layers that show points of interests like banks, schools, restaurants shopping areas and much more. In addition to the standard satellite view, Google Earth also includes a tilt feature that allows you to render the map in a realistic 3D perspective that shows elevations levels. Additional features include on-screen measuring, emailing and printing of map views, personal places and more. "

Imagine that! The EXACT address. Even though the whole Big Brother possibilty seems a bit old and paranoid, satellite images still scare the shite out of me.
Oh, and I loooove that song. :) See you on Sunday.
